Project Summary

Sproutt was engaged by Flinders Ports Holdings (FPH) to support refinement of spatial data processes and improve asset location and condition knowledge across their sites. The initial phase focused on a comprehensive pilot asset condition survey at one of their sites, covering a wide range of aboveground infrastructure such as fences, light poles, electrical equipment, buildings, and hardstand areas. Belowground feature surveys were conducted by FPH, with Sproutt responsible for data attribution and GIS integration. This pilot serves as a foundation to validate workflows before full-scale asset surveys are undertaken.

Our Approach

Sproutt led the development of a tailored Survey Feature Code List (FXL) to streamline data collection and improve surveying consistency. Automated translation tools, including Python scripts and the future option for FME workbenches, were created to facilitate seamless data export from ArcGIS Pro to CAD and import from Trimble Business Centre into the geodatabase. Field collection applications were developed on ArcGIS Online for efficient onsite inspections, capturing comprehensive asset details and condition ratings on a 1–5 scale. This project served as a key digital transformation initiative, modernising traditional asset survey processes by integrating advanced spatial technology, automation, and collaborative workflows. All data was carefully attributed, quality assured, and aligned with FPH requirements to ensure smooth integration into their GIS and Asset Management Systems.
