Project Summary

Jack Watkins Reserve, located in Kilburn, South Australia, had become an underutilised community space. Despite being situated near a shopping area and a train station, the reserve's visibility and accessibility were limited due to its secluded location behind commercial shops. The park’s features - including a playground, basketball court, dog park, and outdoor gym - had reached the end of their lifespan and required renewal. The City of Port Adelaide Enfield sought to not only refurbish the existing amenities but also upgrade the park to attract more visitors and foster community use.

Our Approach

Sproutt was tasked with revitalising the space and developed designs that focused on increasing the functionality and appeal of Jack Watkins Reserve. The work involved gathering input from the community, creating design concepts, and providing detailed visualisations for the park’s upgrades. These efforts aimed to transform the reserve into an inviting, active destination that serves as a vibrant community hub.

Outcomes

The designs created by Sproutt were welcomed by the client and will ensure that Jack Watkins Reserve becomes a more prominent and beloved space within the community. The construction in 2024-25 will offer improved amenities, including enhanced play areas, fitness spaces, and recreational facilities, encouraging greater usage and making the park a key community asset.
