Millicent Town Centre is a vital hub for both locals and visitors from surrounding areas. Despite its importance, certain areas of the town, particularly Glen Street, required improvements to enhance accessibility and pedestrian comfort. The Wattle Range Council aimed to create a more welcoming and functional streetscape that would support both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, while activating key areas to encourage greater commercial activity.
Our Approach
Sproutt worked closely with the council to propose significant changes to Glen Street and its surrounding nodes. The project focused on improving the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) accessibility, landscaping, and seating areas, with the goal of creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment. The design also included narrowing the roadway to make it easier to cross for pedestrians, while ensuring that vehicle movements and parking remained efficient.
Outcomes
The streetscape improvements have transformed Millicent Town Centre into a more inviting, accessible space. The enhanced pedestrian environment, better landscaping, and improved seating areas encourage people to spend more time in the area, boosting foot traffic and supporting local businesses. Glen Street has remained functional for vehicles while providing a much more comfortable and navigable space for pedestrians, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.
