Condition Assessment, Reporting, Asset ManagementProject Summary
Sproutt was engaged to undertake a structural and blockage inspection of stormwater culverts to ensure their structural integrity, in order to mitigate risk and plan out required maintenance works using a Downer-built collector app.
Additionally, Sproutt was engaged a second time in the form of an emergency response to floods in Northern SA to assess flood damages to the same network of culverts.
Our Approach
Sproutt took a preventative, data-driven approach by inspecting stormwater culverts to assess both structural condition and potential blockages. The goal was to reduce infrastructure risk and guide targeted maintenance efforts. This was achieved using the Downer collector app, which streamlined data gathering and asset reporting, ensuring informed decision-making and efficient resource planning.
As part of the emergency flood response, rapid on-ground assessment of flood damage to the existing culvert network was the priority. Leveraging our prior inspection data and knowledge of the infrastructure, we mobilised quickly to identify critical damage points, inform urgent repair recommendations, and support recovery planning, all while maintaining continuity with the original dataset to ensure consistency in reporting and decision-making.
Outcomes
The outcome of both engagements was a comprehensive understanding of the stormwater culvert network’s condition, both under normal and emergency circumstances. Our proactive inspection enabled risk mitigation and informed maintenance planning, while their rapid response to the floods ensured timely assessment of damage, continuity in asset knowledge, and supportive effective recovery efforts. Together, these approaches reinforced infrastructure resilience and readiness across varying conditions.
