Project Summary

Barrow Crescent and Virgo Street Reserves were vacant open spaces in older Elizabeth suburbs that required revitalisation as part of broader state and local government efforts to renew the area. These spaces had the potential to become valuable community assets, but they needed to reflect the needs and desires of nearby residents.

Our Approach

Sproutt was engaged to develop detailed designs and documentation for both sites. The project involved extensive community engagement to determine the best uses for the spaces, and partnering with the SA Housing Authority, ensuring the design aligned with Council strategies, such as increasing tree canopy and assisting with urban cooling in line with the Northern Adelaide Climate Change Adaptation Plan. The designs incorporated customised play equipment and natural spaces, offering a unique mix of features tailored to the community. The project was closely monitored to maintain a high-quality, cost-effective outcome.

Outcomes

The upgrades at Barrow Crescent and Virgo Street Reserves will transform these vacant spaces into vibrant, community-focused parks that reflect the diverse cultures and needs of the area. The new parks, set to be delivered in 2024-25, will enhance urban cooling, increase green coverage, and provide fun and engaging play environments for residents.
