Project Summary

Sproutt was engaged by the City of Playford to undertake the detailed design of a roundabout at the intersection of Woodford and Dauntsey Roads. The project aimed to improve traffic flow and safety at a key local intersection, with all design work completed in accordance with relevant standards and Council requirements. Sproutt’s scope included service location, survey and potholing, swept path analysis, road alignment review, detailed design to AGRD Part 4B, preparation of a design report and construction specification, Safety in Design documentation, and a tender cost estimate.

Our Approach

Sproutt’s approach combined technical precision with proactive stakeholder coordination. Initial site investigations included service location, potholing, and survey to establish accurate base data. Swept path analysis was used to assess vehicle movements and inform the roundabout geometry and road alignment. The detailed design was developed in accordance with Austroads Guide to Road Design Part 4B, ensuring compliance with national standards for intersection treatments. Throughout the process, Sproutt worked closely with Council stakeholders to address site-specific challenges and incorporate feedback. Safety in Design principles were embedded throughout the design, and a comprehensive design report and construction specification were prepared to support tendering and delivery. Sproutt's traffic engineers ensured that the design met the requirements of Australian Standards & Austroads guidelines throughout the design development.

Outcomes

The roundabout design has now been issued for construction and is being used as a reference template for future roundabout projects within the City of Playford. The design supports improved traffic safety and operational efficiency, while meeting all technical and regulatory requirements. Sproutt’s documentation, including the tender cost estimate and construction specifications, has provided the Council with a reliable and repeatable framework for future intersection upgrades.
